Habitat for Humanity opened the doors of our new ReStore facility in May at 1201 Piner off Industrial Drive. Our new 17,000 square foot facility enables Habitat for Humanity to expand its ability to provide much needed affordable housing for families in Sonoma County. ReStore funds part of the Habitat for Humanity home construction expenses by selling donated new and used home improvement items.
Call (707) 568-3228 or email our ReStore Outreach Manager Cherie Gannon-Taylor for details, including how to donate or volunteer. Himatee Patel, whose day-job is in marketing for a pharmaceutical company, and Snevely Dorsonne, who works in advertising, came to Sonoma County on their vacation the week of July 11-17 from their hometown of Brooklyn, New York. When planning their trip last May, Himatee thought that seven days of wine tasting might get boring, so she decided to include a couple of days of volunteer work in their vacation plans. Luckily for us, she found Habitat for Humanity of Sonoma County’s website had listed a need for volunteers during the week she would be on vacation in Sonoma County. She contacted Isabelle Accornero, HFHSC’s construction volunteer coordinator, who scheduled Himatee and Snevely to work on the two Habitat for Humanity homes currently under construction in Healdsburg.
The two were on the build site July 14, and Himatee shared that this was not the first time she’s spent her vacation as a volunteer. She previously spent 10 days in Kenya helping construct housing for people in need. There the volunteers Our gratitude to volunteers like Himatee and Snevely who joined our regular dedicated volunteers at the build site!
